We always complete a thorough evaluation of your cat, discuss our findings with you and together we can choose the best course of treatment.

Comprehensive Wellness Care
Our doctors will perform a thorough physical examination of your cat and will discuss nutrition, dental care and other ways to keep your cat healthy during each office visit. More frequent exams are recommended for kittens and cats age 10 years and older, but the “Twice a Year for Life” program has shown that more frequent exams can alert us to problems before they become more serious.
Kitten Wellness Care – Congratulations on your new kitten! Kittens go through so many changes their first year and we know you will have many questions about how to best care for your new kitten. When you visit with your kitten we will discuss nutrition, litter box, scratching, neutering, behavior and other issues that may concern you. Our comprehensive care includes examinations, vaccinations, parasite control and viral testing, and spay/neutering needed to get your kitten off to a healthy start.
Adult Wellness Care (1-6 years) and Mature Adult Care (7-9 years) – We will perform a complete physical exam, administer only needed vaccinations according to your cat’s lifestyle, and perform lab work (if necessary) tailored to the individual cat. We will also discuss any behavior changes, weight management and dental care needed to keep your cat healthy and pain-free.
Senior Wellness Care - Cats 10 years and older are more prone to medical problems and we strongly encourage semi-annual examinations and testing. We will ask about any subtle changes you may have noticed, such as your cat drinking more water or climbing stairs more slowly. Our Senior Wellness Care includes consultation regarding nutrition and behavior, comprehensive physical examination, blood pressure measurement and lab work imaging. We will discuss findings with you and make recommendations to keep your cat healthy.

Drop-Off Appointments
For established clients, dropping off your cat first thing in the morning means we can get diagnostics and treatments started sooner to help your cat feel better quicker. Drop-off appointments are available for routine wellness exams and vaccinations, as well as diagnostic testing and treatment. We ask that wellness visits be scheduled in advance. There is a ward fee for cats that spend the day with us.

Parasite Prevention
Parasite prevention plays a major role in the routine health of your cat(s). All kittens are treated for intestinal parasites at least twice during their initial visits. For all cats, we recommend heartworm prevention and yearly fecal analysis. For outside cats, we recommend flea and tick prevention as well as yearly treatment for intestinal parasites. Our clinic carries an assortment of products and the doctors will tailor a prevention program specific for your cat. Most modern parasite prevention products carried at veterinary offices are very safe and are chosen because they are efficacious.

Domestic/National and International Health Certificates
Our veterinarians are ASDA-APHIS accredited and can certify cats for travel within the US and abroad. Overseas travel preparation can take more than six months, so if you plan to travel or move abroad, please contact us as soon as possible to begin the appropriate preparations for your cat.

Rabies Titer Testing
If your cat will be traveling overseas, island states (Hawaii) and countries (Australia, Japan and others) have stringent requirements regarding Rabies vaccination and blood titer tests to prevent Rabies. We can perform the testing and provide documentation needed to certify your cat for travel. Again, if you plan to take your cat overseas, please contact us as soon as possible (minimum of 6 months in advance).

Microchip Placement
Microchip placement provides a permanent form of identification for your cat. This involves placing a tiny chip under the cat’s skin between its shoulders. The chip identification information is then recorded in a national registry. Unlike a collar or tag that can fall off, the microchip is permanently embedded in your cat. If your cat gets lost, most shelters and veterinary hospitals will check for a microchip to identify your cat and help expedite a safe return to its owner. Microchipping is also required for international travel.
We recommend microchipping your cat during spay/neuter surgery, but this can also be done during a routine office visit. See “Home Again” microchip by Schering-Plough for more information.

Weight Management
Excess weight increases your cat’s risk of diabetes, urinary problems and arthritis. Current knowledge of feline nutrition helps us help you manage your cat’s weight. Weight checks (technician appointments) are available at no charge, however, appointments are required.

Blood Pressure
Elevated blood pressure or hypertension is common in older cats. Untreated hypertension causes pain; it can worsen kidney disease and can cause heart problems or even blindness. The good news is that hypertension in cats can be treated with medication, often flavored liquid to mix in food. At A Cat Clinic, we routinely screen senior cats for hypertension as part of their senior wellness exam.

Laboratory Facilities
We use a combination of in-house and outside laboratories, to provide the most accurate and timely results for your cat. Common problems detected on lab work include: intestinal parasites, urinary problems, infections, kidney disease, allergies, diabetes and hyperthyroidism. Fortunately, medical treatment and proper diet are helpful in treating many of these common feline problems.

Multiple Disease Management
It is not uncommon, in cats as in people, to have multiple concurrent medical issues. Dr. Rubenstein has a special interest is geriatric internal medicine and she will work closely with you to determine the best possible care for your cat. Complex problems in cats include: diabetes, hyperthyroidism, inflammatory bowel disease and kidney disease.

Surgical Procedures
Our clinic offers routine surgical procedures to keep your cat happy and healthy. At 4 months of age we recommend spaying (ovariohysterectomy) or neutering your kitten. Our doctors will perform declaw surgery to the front paws only. This surgery will only be pursued if behavior modification fails. Other routine procedures performed include mass removal, biopsy, and bladder surgery. We also have the capability to perform specialized surgeries such as perineal urethrostomies and FHO's.

Dental Care and Oral Surgery
Cats seldom show obvious pain. It’s only after a dental procedure that we’ll hear, “She hasn’t been this active for a while,” and then owners realize how much discomfort the cat experienced prior to dental treatment. Bad breath, tartar on the teeth and red gums (gingivitis) indicate dental disease. Home care will help, but a Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment and Treatment (COHAT) is needed for most cats.
We understand concerns regarding anesthesia. We conduct a pre-anesthetic exam and lab work, followed up with continual monitoring during and after dental cleaning/treatment that help make the procedure as safe as possible. Cats are awake within minutes of completing the dental procedure and will be ready to go home soon after.

Grooming
Some cats need a little help to maintain their beautiful coat. That is why our clinic offers an assortment of grooming options for your cat. Our services include: routine brush/dematting, nail trims, perineal shaves, lion clips and baths. Unfortunately, some cats prefer to not hold still during grooming. Luckily our doctors are always available and can administer sedatives if needed. We offer package deals too – please contact our clinic for pricing. Grooming is for established clients only.

Boarding
Whether you are going out of town or need to board your cat(s) for a quick night, our clinic offers safe, clean, and quiet boarding facilities with a beautiful view of our wooded backyard. Rooms offered include: Traditional, Hide-A-Way, Rooms-With-A-View, Privacy Suite and Kitty Condos. All cats are checked at least twice daily including weekends and holidays. We recommend bringing your cat’s regular food to maintain his/her regular diet. You may also bring other belongings such as a t-shirt, small toy or blanket that is labeled and machine washable.

Medical Boarding
At A Cat Clinic, you will know that when you have to board your cat for medical reasons your cat is receiving the finest care in our array of boarding options. We offer Traditional, Rooms With A View, Privacy Suites, and Kitty Condos. Most cats enjoy the view of the nearby woods. Our technicians monitor each cat a minimum of twice daily (including weekends and holidays) and report any changes in appetite or behavior directly to our doctors. We are familiar with cats that have special needs such as diabetes, hyperthyroidism and kidney disease. For extra-shy cats, we make sure they have a place to hide so they feel safer. The Rooms With A View and Kitty Condos can be opened so that two cats in the same family each have their own space, but can be together if they choose.
